Shapes -- Stars

The challenge today was to make a star your main focus -- also it's art glitter week, so adding glitter isn't necessary but is icing on the cake.

here's my take on being a star

Masking

The challenge today was to do some masking -- taking a copy of your stamp and covering part of where you're going to stamp so that you have spaces left for full images. This took me a bit to get into it but in the end I loved it.

Here's what I was able to create.

Sunflowers

So I love this challenge, in fact I have been saving these pictures for just the challenge that meets them. I made this card for my cousin's bridal shower a few weeks ago, she LOVES sunflowers.

I was playing around and realized that if you cross stitch the middles of the flowers they look like they have seeds and have texture, so that's what I did. I also made a few book marks as well for my cousin.

Here it is, in a few different shots.

Thanks to Carolyn V for the great shape idea for the card, I can't take credit for that, that was all her!

You guessed it - another challenge

Sketch Sunday -- this seems to be a pattern.

Here's the sketch to work off of:

DAy 124 - Computer Graphic

So here's the Challenge -- use your word processor to create an image rather then using a stamp.

So google here I come -- searched for butterfly and colouring pages -- Love this butterfly!!

Let the printing and colouring begin, and here's the finished product.

Lunch??

Day 144's Challenge was to do a card with layers -- well I think this is darn near perfect!! Brian and I were watching a cooking show and the way that the chef wrapped something reminded me of the way my mom would wrap my sandwiches for lunch when i was little. And from that this card was born.

enjoy!

Playing Catch up -- Day 123

Playing Catch up -- so to reach my goal of getting all the challenges completed for July, I have to play a bit of catch up -- So here's day 123

365 Cards Challenge for the day was to use this sketch -- with the limitation that you must leave the white space bare.

Here's what I was able to create before running off to the gym for a PT session.

Day 145 -- Ad Inspired

4th Challenge posted today!!! wow I'm on a roll -- let's hope it continues.

This was Thursday's Challenge for this week -- we had to find inspiration from the picture posted.

I took the monogram from this, as well as the butterflies and orange colour. I'm really happy with this card. And even better it only took about 15 minutes. I'm so excited when things just come together.

Here's what I created!

Day 147 Challenge - Scraplift

So today's challenge was to scraplift an idea from one of the DT from 365 Cards Blog. So after some searching I came upon this card from Gloria. Here's a picture of her card:

Here is my interpretation of her card. I mad this one for friends of ours who recently got married, and we're finally getting around to sitting down with them to have coffee and get them their gift.

Challenge 146 - Mirror Me

Here's my card for the Mirror Me Challenge.
The challenge was to mirror everything in the card except the sentiment of course. I chose to go against the norm, and have my mirror going diagonally across the card rather than horizontal or vertical.

I'm totally in love with this card and what I was able to create with just some paper flowers and stolen ribbon (thanks Regan!) and a super cute stamp!

supplies: paper - papertrey, flowers - prima, ribbon - papertrey, ink - papertrey.

Day 143 -- Keep it to yourself

So the point of today's challenge is to try to evoke the sentiment of the card without having to state it on the front. This weeks was to be a sympathy card.

I hope that i was able to show that through this card -- and I got to use my new Papertrey stamps for the first time for this one.

The technique is reverse embossing, and I'm totally going to use this technique again.

enjoy!

Movie Monday? - Day 142

So today's card is to be inspired by the movie Twilight. It has to be black and red, with some bling.

Well I just started book 3 -- and i'm loving the series -- so i decided to make this card for the person that allows me the freedom to read rather then pay attention to him 24/7

Love you babe!!

141 - Sketch

So The challenge for Today was to create a card using this sketch.

Here's my attempt -- now I have a boy birthday card in my stash to send out when needed :D

Day 139 - Paper Piercing

Today's Challenge was to try a technique: paper piercing.

So here is my attempt at it. I took a 2 step stamp from SU and used the outline as my pattern for piercing the patter, and then used the solid to accent it.

Now I just have to find someone to mail this out to.

Day 138 - and I quote

The Challenge -- use a quote on your card. My Grandma is getting re married and we're having a tea for her. I thought this card would be great to tell her how I feel. I miss my grandfather, a lot some days, but I'm so excited that Grandma has found someone to take care of and take care of her.

The quote reads:
Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit. ~ Kahlil Gibran

I love this tree stamp from SU, and adding stickles pearls to create some blossoms.

Day 137 - Binding

In a Bind -- you have to bind to pieces of something to create a card.

I went the simple way and used eyelets to bind two pieces of card stock together. I also used BG buttons to create flowers, and stitched the stems and the phrase, love you.

Card is in the mail on it's way to a very special person in my life. Love you lots Aunt Barb!

Day 136 - Red Black and White

Oh My!! So since my entire wedding album is red black and white - this challenge was fun, and it got me out of my wedding box that I was in.

Love this card, and I'll try to get a better picture of it soon.

Monday, July 13, 2009

Day 135 - Windows

Today's challenge is to create a window from the outside looking in.

I created this card to send to my SIL, just to say hi, and that I miss her.

This was a bit of a challenge, since I was without 20 different ink colours, but I got it done.

Challenge 134 - Sketch

Another Sunday and Another sketch!

Here's my interpretation of the sketch.

Challenge 125 - I'm Here

Brian and I are so excited that we are going to be Uncle and Aunt again in the near future -- so in true Jac fashion I offered to make some birth announcements for Joshua's pending arrival. Just so happens that it fits in with this challenge perfectly.

The Challenge -- to create a closure on your card --- I used ribbon.

Enjoy! -- and I'll keep you posted on Joshua's arrival!

My First Blog Challenge

So I'm not Dee or Regan, but I thought I would try some of the amazing challenges that are out there.

So here's my first 365 Card Challenge entry.

The rules: you had to stitch an image on your card.
So here's mine, and the best part, it's already in the mail on it's way to someone fabulous.

That which is awesome inspires awe.

I have been more then frustrated lately with the use of the word awesome.

Awesome, awe-some, awe inspiring, in awe of something.

I am not in awe of an object, or a book or even a person. I am in awe of my God, and I guess that's what this all comes down to.

I remember as a child singing:
"God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom power and love
Our God is an awesome God"

I am in complete awe of my God, and all that he has created! I am amazed at what the universe contains and the fact that God loves us so much to create all of it for us. Our bodies are amazing miracles that he created with care.

I get very frustrated with the use of the word. It is so casually thrown around by society today not realizing the full meaning of it. In the Psalms David is in awe of God and writes so many songs about how amazing and awesome God is.

I have stopped myself from using the word awesome. I am making an effort to use it in reference to all that God has done for me. My God Is An AWESOME God. He inspires awe in me!

Think about it. When you say that something is awesome, does it really inspire awe in you?

Wow!! all I can say is WOW!!

So those of you who read this know that I love scrapbooking, and you know the store that I happen to shop at. Well I defiantly will not be shopping there anymore.

I've been having some issues with some of the things that have been happening with the online forum associated with the store.

First is a 'game' that is formatted something like survivor. There are weekly challenges and you have to post pictures of what you create, by a deadline of course. Then there is open voting, and the person with the least amount of the votes gets kicked out of the competition. That's the part I have an issue with. Scrapbooking is a creative venue -- I love that I can do whatever I want with pictures and bling and paper, and I love that what I create has meaning -- at least to me. So I think openly voting on someone's creative outlet is completely wrong. Let alone the fact that some of the people in the forum are new to scrapbooking and will be totally turned off by the fact that some people may not like what they have created.

Second is a huge contradiction! We are not allowed to post links to our blogs anywhere on the forum, as they can not control if we have information or product from another store on our blogs. I can totally understand that. However this past week we were asked to put a blinkie promoting their store on our blogs. Does anyone else see the contradiction?!?!?! I know for a fact that the Design Team Leader has other stores on her blog, and her blog is promoted from the stores' blog. How is that inline with the rules of the forum if the DTL can have informaiton and product from another store on her blog and have it promoted, but I am not able to ever reference my blog anywhere becasue I may have product from another store. There was an incident wheresomeone asked a question regarding blogs on the forum, and was openly criticised by the DTL for not reading the rules, and belittled in the process. If I were in that situation, I would have dealt with it in a private message, and then put a basic quote of the rules on the thread before shutting it down, not openly stating that the person 'had better re read the rules of the forum before posting another question'. In my opinion the DTL's head is hardly big enough to fit in the store.

I have been oh so quiet about things that I have been noticing but I can't be quiet anymore. The owners of the store will know my opinion, and they have lost a valuble customer. One that honestly brings in a lot of revenue for their store. I guess I'll be shopping in StJ's more often, maybe not as close to my house, but at least I can avoid the drama, and avoid the forum.

I guess I've learned my lesson. If the DTL showes up at another store I shop at and get's involved, change stores. She's not worth the drama again.

Wednesday Cannot Come Soon Enough

So yesterday I confirmed with my new proctor, Mr Hamberger, that he has my exam at his office and I am going to be writing my LLQP qualifier on Wednesday afternoon.

I cannot explain how relieved I am to be able to write this week. With all the stress of studying it is so nice to know that no matter what the outcome I will be done writing my first part Life License by Wednesday night.

Big Sigh of Relief!!

In other news: Brian and I are off to Manulife tonight to see about getting a ManulifeONE. Brian calls our current banking situation a ghetto ManuONE because he does all the switches himself rather then it being done automatically. I can't wait to see what comes of this.

Be back soon! I'll update when I'm done writing.

Blessings!

It's been a while

Oh goodness! It's been too long.

So here's the run down of my life for the last little while:

Life Insurance License exam: so I've been studying like crazy for this exam. About 6 hours a day on weekdays and 10 to 12 hours on weekends. I was totally ready to write the exam this past Thursday. However fate had a different plan. The proctor didn't receive the exams via FedEx, so we could not write the exam at all. So all the stress and bickering with Brian will last a bit longer. I have been able to find a new proctor for this, and they are waiving the private proctor fee, and I am going to be able to write it this week. I love Brian's extended Family!!! They're so supportive.

Scrapbooking: I have had literally no time to scrap with all the studying. I was hoping to put my stuff in for the Design team at TSF, but didn't have time, and in the end I think I'm okay with not having done it. I don't think that I would be able to work with the timelines. With my CFP studying looming over my head starting next month(hopefully) it will be hard to work on my wedding album or other things.

Work: work has been crazy as usual. And on top of everything with studying for my exam my stress level has been through the roof. The other exciting thing that happened is not such a great thing, but we've dealt with it. My boss's trip to Porto Rico was cancelled because of the H1N1 virus. Manulife sponsors a National Sales Conference every 2 years, and an International one on the off years. So the National was to be in Porto Rico this year, the first week in May. Now my boss as a top producer gets a bonus of a few extra nights there, and golfing with other people and special dinners. So it's a great week for him and Brenda to get away and just be. As well as a great week for me to get the office back in order after Tax season and RRSP season. Well it ended up being cancelled less than 12 hours before his flight was to take off. You can only imagine how frustrated he was, and I was. My plan was totally thrown off, but at least I got to get some of it done while he was in the office. Other than that work is work, and it must be done to pay the bills.

Brian: oh how i love Brian!! even with everything that I've been doing and all the studying Brian has been amazing. He's really stepped up and has been helping me out a lot. He did the spring cleaning for me so I could study. He's not gotten too frustrated with my inability to spend time together because of my studying. And although I really appreciate how amazing he has been with studying and my lack of free time, I cannot wait to be able to spend some time together. Jac and Brian weekend is planned for June, and July, and then for our anniversary in September.

Our First Anniversary: So Brian and I planned out our anniversary weekend, and I'm so excited that we are planning on going to Old Quebec. I haven't ever been, and I can't wait to see it all with Brian. We still have to settle up all the details but I'm excited to start planning out first anniversary.

okay -- I think that's all I have for now. I promise that I will update more often. It's in the agenda on a weekly basis now.

Blessings!!

Sofi got her Heart!!

Over the last few months, well almost a year, a childhood friend of mine has lived in the hospital with her daughter who has been battling heart problems. Just before Christmas they were told that she would need a new heart. I'm not a parent yet but I can start to fathom what it would be like to know that someone else has to lose their little one in order for yours to live.

On Friday evening Sofi was prepped and ready for transplant, and at 2am on Saturday morning Sofi's new heart was put in place!! She had a bit of a rough patch but she's now doing better then expected!!

I'm overwhelmed with excitement and relief for Krissy and Mike!! and Sofi of course!!

There's still a lot that she'll have to go through, but getting to this point was the hardest! Her old heart actually stopped beating just before they put the new one in. Only God has perfect timing like that.

Please keep Krissy and Mike and Sofi in your prayers!!
and smile because Miricles do happen!! Sofi is here today becaues of God's amazing love and perfect timing!!

Until Our Love

I saw this quote last week and have been dying to scrap it.. but I ran into a dilemma -- what pictures do I use. I thought it would be too cheesy to use a wedding picture. Of course wedding pictures mean forever, but what other pictures of the two of us do i have that i love and have this quote at the very essence of the picture.

So I turned to my ever true facebook and looked through all my pictures and found one of our engagement pictures. I'm so in love with this now. Although it's an engagement picture, i think it's just totally Brian and I. Fun and playful, but totally in love.

I'm so happy with how this turned out. I still have some journaling to do and some bling to add but I love how it is right now.

Here I Go

So I'm not 100% sure about this whole blogging thing, but I figured why not.

I'm excited about posting pictures of what I've created, and get some great feedback.

So Here I Go. Let's see where this takes me.
